Arrhythmia: Diagnosis & Treatment

Overview
Arrhythmia is a disorder of the heart's rhythm, caused by structural or functional changes in the heart's conduction system. A normal resting heart rate ranges from 60 to 80 beats per minute. Irregular heart rhythms can lead to palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, or more severe complications if left untreated.

Diagnosis
To accurately assess arrhythmia, the following diagnostic methods are used:

  • Electrocardiogram (ECG) – Records the heart’s electrical activity to detect rhythm abnormalities.

  • Holter Monitoring – Continuous 24-hour ECG monitoring to capture irregularities over an extended period.

  • Electrophysiological Study (EPS) – A specialized test to evaluate electrical conduction and identify the source of arrhythmia.

Treatment
The choice of treatment depends on the type and severity of arrhythmia. Treatment options include:

  • Medication Therapy – Antiarrhythmic drugs to regulate heart rhythm.

  • Pacemaker Implantation – A device that helps maintain a normal heart rate.

  • Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) – A device used for life-threatening arrhythmias.

  • Radiofrequency Catheter Ablation (RFA) – A minimally invasive procedure that destroys abnormal electrical pathways.

  • Surgical Treatment – Reserved for severe cases requiring structural correction.

Cost of Diagnosis & Treatment: 15,500,000 – 20,500,000 KRW (Radiofrequency Ablation)
