Overview

Kidney transplantation is a surgical procedure to replace a damaged or failing kidney with a healthy donor kidney. The procedure can be performed using a kidney from either a living or deceased donor.

Living Donor Kidney Transplant

A healthy individual aged 16 to 65 years with normal kidney function and anatomy can serve as a donor. However, individuals with the following conditions are not eligible to donate:

• Diabetes mellitus

• Severe hypertension

• Infections

• Malignancies (cancers)

• Mental health disorders
