Lymphoma: Diagnosis & Treatment
Overview
Lymphoma is a malignant disease affecting the lymphatic system. In Korea, the most common subtypes include:
Nodular T-cell Lymphoma, Unspecified (63% of all lymphoma cases)
Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma
Anaplastic Large-Cell Lymphoma
Lymphomas arise from abnormal lymphocytes and can progress aggressively if left untreated.
Diagnosis
A comprehensive diagnostic approach includes:
Lymph Node Resection & Histopathological Examination – Essential for confirming lymphoma type
Immunohistochemical Analysis – Determines molecular markers for targeted therapy
Blood Tests – Evaluates liver, kidney, and bone marrow function
CT Scan (Chest & Abdomen) – Determines disease spread
Bone Marrow Examination – Assesses involvement of hematopoietic tissue
Additional tests may include:
PET-CT Scan – Used for staging and monitoring treatment response
Spinal Fluid Examination – Performed when central nervous system (CNS) involvement is suspected
Treatment
The treatment approach depends on the lymphoma subtype and disease stage. The main treatment options include:
Surgical Treatment – Rarely used but may be indicated for localized disease
High-Dose Chemotherapy – Standard treatment for aggressive lymphomas
Bone Marrow Transplantation (Stem Cell Transplant) – Used in cases of relapse or high-risk disease
Cost of Diagnosis & Treatment:
From 50,000,000 KRW (Bone Marrow Transplantation)
