Uterine Prolapse: Diagnosis & Treatment
Overview
Uterine prolapse is a condition characterized by the downward displacement or complete prolapse of the uterus into the vaginal canal. The primary causes include aging, obesity, multiple pregnancies, difficult labor, weakened pelvic muscles, and chronic constipation. Genetic predisposition also plays a significant role in the development of this condition.
Diagnosis
Uterine prolapse is diagnosed through a gynecological examination, where the condition is assessed via manual palpation.
Treatment
The treatment approach depends on the severity of symptoms:
Mild Cases – If discomfort is minimal, treatment may not be necessary.
Moderate to Severe Cases – Kegel exercises or pessary placement may be recommended to strengthen pelvic muscles.
Surgical Treatment – Includes hysterectomy with simultaneous vaginal wall reconstruction (anterior and posterior colporrhaphy) or sacrocolpopexy (implantation of mesh to support displaced organs).
Cost of Diagnosis & Treatment:
5,500,000 – 10,500,000 KRW
