Laser Vision Correction: LASEK & LASIK
LASEK (Laser Epithelial Keratomileusis)
LASEK is a surgical procedure for correcting myopia (nearsightedness). During the surgery:
The epithelial layer of the cornea is carefully removed.
An excimer laser reshapes the cornea by removing a precise portion of the anterior boundary membrane and stroma to achieve a refractive correction.
The epithelial layer naturally regenerates, requiring a recovery period with protective lenses to minimize discomfort and enhance healing.
LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis)
LASIK is a widely used laser vision correction method that differs from LASEK in the surgical approach:
A thin corneal flap is created, preserving the epithelial layer, anterior boundary membrane, and stroma.
An excimer laser reshapes the stroma to achieve the desired vision correction.
The corneal flap is repositioned without the need for sutures, allowing faster visual recovery than LASEK.
Diagnostic Tests Before Surgery
A comprehensive eye examination is required to determine suitability for laser vision correction, including:
Analysis of the anterior segment of the eye
Pupil size measurement
Corneal curvature and thickness evaluation
Fundus examination and visual field assessment
Intraocular pressure measurement
Cost of Diagnosis & Treatment:
LASEK: 2,300,000 KRW
LASIK: 2,700,000 KRW
